Reactivating an inactive customer means reopening a previous relationship with a useful reason to talk. It differs from following up on a quote still under discussion. Identify the last real interaction, what the person bought or requested, and whether another contact would make sense to them.
Define inactivity for your business
Someone who buys an annual service is not inactive after a few weeks. Use the normal purchase or service cycle as context. Separate repeat customers, one-time buyers and people who enquired but never bought. These groups have different relationships with you.
- Previous purchase: check the product or service and whether a new contact is timely.
- Postponed project: recover the reason it was paused before offering a conversation.
- Unresolved service issue: address the issue before making another sales approach.
Choose a reason that matters to the customer
A reason might be a relevant restock, a maintenance period or an improvement connected to an earlier request. Explain that connection. “We miss you” alone asks the customer to create the conversation; a concrete reason gives them something useful to consider. Do not imply a need you have not verified.
Adapt a message to the previous context
Previous purchase: “Hi [name], you bought [item] from us a while ago. We now have [relevant update]. Would you like the details, or is this not something you need at the moment?” Mention only information that is accurate.
Paused project: “Hi [name], when we last spoke, [project] was waiting on [context]. Has that changed? If it is still on hold, no problem.” This invites an update without pretending the old proposal remains valid.
Service cycle: “Hi [name], I am checking in about [previous service]. Would it be useful to discuss [appropriate next step]? If you would rather not receive these reminders, please let me know.” Keep the message personal and avoid an unnecessary attachment.
Organize previous customer context
Separate the relationship, stage and next action before contacting anyone.
Track the result and respect a refusal
Record the reason for contacting, the response and agreed next action. If there is interest, create or update an opportunity. If there is no reply after a proportionate follow-up, pause the outreach. If the person declines further contact, stop and record the preference rather than moving them into another sequence.
Review known opportunities
Use the Radar to organize sales work that already has context.
Automate only a defined process
TappyWhats column sequences use configured messages, delays and sending windows. A reply stops and moves the card only when the destination rule is configured. CRM editing and automation require active Pro or an eligible seven-day trial without a card. Sending requires the originating computer and browser online with WhatsApp Web open and connected; review pending items after interruptions.
Common questions
Should I contact every old customer?
No. Select people whose previous context makes the message relevant and respect recorded contact preferences.
Do I need to offer a discount?
No. A useful update or timely service conversation may be a better reason than a general promotion.
What if a quote is still open?
Treat it as proposal follow-up and refer to the current decision. Reactivation is for a relationship that has become inactive.
